Kuwona means ‘to see’ in Xitswa, which is one of the languages in southern Mozambique. By choosing a Xitswa word, I want to express my gratitude to Mozambique and the people I met during my two-year stay in Vilanculos and the rural areas of Inhassoro district. I feel greatly inspired by them.
For me, to really see each other means to look beyond prejudices and cultural differences, and meet each other with an open mind and willingness to learn from each other.
In addition, to see addresses the importance of vision in present-day society, where many messages are communicated through images and illustrations. An image can indeed say more than a thousand words.
